I took my car in for a brake estimate to Wayside Garage recently (Oct 2017). For my Nissan Altima, brakes and rotors full replacement would be around $800. If machining is available, near $500-$600. My vehicle was quoted to be $1,100+ for machining of front rotors, replacing back rotors, and all new pads. That is quite high, and according to other local shops for comparison - gouging-ly high. On the receipt, they intended to charge me 3X for the brake fluid, a brake fluid flush when my brake fluid was still clear (Clear = good, Amber = Get changed, Black = bad). I was informed that my back rotors were in replacement condition. My car had 47K miles on it, and they were well within machining tolerances. They tried to get that past me for more gouging. The worst part in my opinion is when a brake inspection is done, they have to take the wheels off your car on the lift to get measurements of your pads and rotors. In my request, I asked in the process if they could rotate my tires when putting the tires back on after inspection. What is a complimentary request at 90%+ of other auto repair places, Wayside decided to charge me $45 for a tire rotation. $45! Something that takes 5 minutes to do and would think is complimentary because they would have to put your tires back on after inspection! Ridiculous! If you know the value of service to your vehicle, or value money in your pocket, stay away from Wayside Garage.

Possibly the best garage in Monterey. Family owned and operated. They are straight with you about what you need on your vehicle and don't try and screw you over. They will refer you elsewhere if someone is more qualified to do the job.

As customers we were completely screwed at Wayside garage. Please always get a second opinion no matter where you go! My husband took our truck into Wayside Garage to replace the EGR valve. The cost was us $718! Feeling like that was a lot we pulled our money together to get it fixed, because we trusted their honesty of price and quality work. After they fixed it, the engine light came back on short after. Thinking it was not the EGR valve because it was just replaced we went to a Automative Specialist SVC in Sand City. We chose to go to another place just based on the high cost at Wayside. SVC team was super friendly and didn’t make us feel like we were a bother and they were able to look at our truck right away. They told us it was the EGR valve. We told them we just had it replaced and showed them our bill and paperwork. The mechanic was shocked and said that they screwed us over on the price by a few hundred dollars! We were so upset to be taken advantage like that, rightfully. The mechanic recommended we go back to Wayside and demand them to fix it at no extra cost and if they gave us any trouble he would be willing to go back with us. So we went back to Wayside garage and explained to them what happened. The woman in the front said she had to make sure it was the EGR valve the was the problem. She made us feel like we were lying to her and was very rude instead of being understanding and nice. On top of that, they would not take our truck in right away and we had to wait several days before they would even check it out. You would think if there was a chance they made a mistake they would take your vehicle in right away as good customer service, nope! When they discovered that it was the EGR valve they offered to replace it at no cost. This was good news, so we thought. After replacing the part for the second time the engine light came back on and guess what the EGR valve was wrong again! Frustrated and not wanting to deal with environment at Wayside anymore we went to several mechanics in the area, and they all told us the same thing the part was not done properly and the cost was too high. We went ahead and had Advantage Auto fix it for $435! Way cheaper, way better service!!! We went back to Wayside with all our paper work and requested a refund. The women argued with us that we should of went back to them to get it fixed. We explained to her that we were treated bad by them and wanted it fixed properly, who would go to the same place for the third time. She stated she had to do some “research” and get back to us. She also said that bad parts happen sometimes. When she got back to us all she wanted to do was refunded the cost for the part and wanted us to give the part it back to her. She asked for the part back only so she can return it and get her money back so in the end she didn’t lose a dime and we lost hundreds. I honestly felt like Wayside took advantage of us because we were a young couple my husband has a accent and they thought we wouldn’t say anything. I’m so disappointed to lose out on the money during this holiday season and right before the birth of our baby. Such a huge disappointment to be taken advantage the way that we did!
