Alright so I would like to start that they have amazing customer service, which is why I gave them two stars. They were very friendly and nice. However, the niceness does mask their way of making money. I by all means recognize this is a business and they need to make money, but they tried to run me dry. I went in for a brake check and they told me my rotors, my brake pads, and my calipers needed to be replaced...and they quoted me more than 1500 dollars to do all of them. I did not have the money for that so I asked if I could just do brake pads and rotors. They told me no. They said I would lose the warranty and the technician said the calipers needed to be replaced as well because "they were 10 years old". They also tried to up-sell me on a TON of other things. I trusted them because they seemed very nice but I wanted to double check (I am not familiar with brakes on cars and the prices). I went to another very reputable mechanic and they told me that yes, my rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced (my car sat for awhile) but my calipers don't. And guess what...it would cost a little more than $300 to do all of them. I went from $1600+ to $300+ just from going to a different mechanic. The mechanic told me they actually attended a training by Wayside Garage, and Wayside Garage were teaching their employees specific tactics on how to up-sell their customers on things they really do not need. I don't usually leave reviews but wow. I do not know about their other services, but do NOT go here for brakes. I am editing this review as a reply to the owner's reply of this review. They said they recommended calipers only because of the difference levels of wear on the break pads...the thing is, calipers are not the only thing to create uneven wear of breakpads. To find out whether or not the calipers actually need to be replaced you must take the calipers off to check them. There are a couple other things that can cause uneven brake pad wear, including rust. And o boy were my brakes rusty. I left my car sitting for awhile due to a faulty transmission and I did not know about the rust until I took it to the other shop because wayside garage DID NOT tell me about allllllll the rust that was coating my brakes. Now, I should have looked, that was not good on my part, but when they called me to tell me how much my bill was going to be they did not say a single thing about HOW rusted my rotors and brake pads were which can definitely make the brake pads unevenly wear. I also know for a fact they did not take a part my breaks because I did the brakes myself and everything was still extremely rusted together... The other shop was nice enough to tell me there was a bunch of rust on my car....Wayside Garage would rather leave that information out so they can just tell me my calipers needed to be replaced. Service: Brakes
Thank you Noah for sharing your feedback. We appreciate and take into consideration all reviews. In regards to your brake repair, specifically the brake calipers, the reason your calipers are needed are due to the fact that your brakes are wearing unevenly. In looking at the brake pad and brake rotor measurements, you can see that one side is wearing substantially more than the other indicating a sticking caliper. As for the other shops' comments, they are nothing more than gossip. We only recommend repairs based on safety first and the longevity of your vehicle second (maintenance). We also use only quality parts. I am sure we could have provided you with an estimate for less using substandard parts, but that would have been a disservice to you. We are here for you if you decide you would like us to care for your Ford Focus in the future.
